Great Great Plains Videos!

You ever want to know how to do something? You don't want the why or a bunch of "fluff" about the architechure, you just want to know where to click to make things happen. I find that "How To" Videos can really help out in this situation!

I was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of these "How To" videos posted up on YouTube! Who would have thunk it? I thought YouTube was only for music videos and RickRolling! Well, come to find out, many reputeable companies are using YouTube to post all sorts of educational videos.

Getting started with VST: "Hello World!" - The Video

I wanted to provide a video update of the "Hello World!" project as the feedback and reception of the series has been tremendous. I am currently working on a second article to demonstrate data access and storage and the use of WinForms and will have it out before next Wednesday.

In the mean time, enjoy parts 1, 2, and 3 of the "Hello World!" project!

I just recorded some overview videos for Project Accounting to provide an introduction to some of the scope and functionality of the system. I covered these topics:

Project Accounting – T&M - This video shows how to use Project Accounting in Dynamics GP to set up a simple T&M project, enter timesheet information, and create invoices using a batch process.

Project Accounting – Fixed Fee - This video shows how to use Project Accounting in Dynamics GP to set up a simple Fixed Fee project, enter timesheet information, recognize revenue, and create invoices using a batch process.

Project Timesheet Entry in Business Portal - This video shows how to easily enter project timesheet information into Business Portal, use an approval process, and post directly to the Project Accounting module in Dynamics GP.

Multiple Site MRP Calculations in Dynamics GP

Dynamics GP can easily be used to manage inventory demand and supply for multiple inventory locations. By using separate sales forecasts, the MRP functionality in GP can separately analyze forecasted demand, and suggest manufacturing orders and purchase orders to fulfill the demand.

I am not sure how many people got to go to WPC this year. For those like me that didn't get to go I was looking for some online content to catch up on what I missed.

I found a great session presented by Errol which I watched in its entirety, and I recommend you do so also. What I thought was super good was the demonstration by Andy Westby from the Microsoft Dynamics GP marketing team. You will find it between minutes 8 and minutes 20 of this recording.

This is what the introduction of every GP demo in the world should look like. In less than ten minutes Andy shows of:
1. Powerful Dashboard, BI and share point
2. Total Flexibility, Build your own screens.
3. Ease of integration - web integration
4. Search and Find functionality
5. Drill through to get around
6. Office integration through export (for GP users)
7. Office integration through data connections (for non GP users)
8. Power of Excel and pivot tables.
9. Drill back from Office to GP

And he did all of that in 10 minutes - which shows that GP can handle just about every scenario you can throw at it. The 'Microsoft Story' is very strong and you can be sure that none of your competitors can match the ease of functionality shown. I am not saying you should show the wellness scenario - but take all of the components of this demo (and more) and apply it to the hot topic for this prospect.

High Resolution Youtube Video

I use YouTube to post business videos. One of the problems is that "Screen Capture" videos are often too low resolution on YouTube to see the screens correctly. I was investigating other video hosting websites like Vimeo but I've found they were no better (plus they have a much smaller audience) Then I ran across a tweak to YouTube that dramatically improves video quality.

Just add: &fmt=18
To the end of a YouTube video link to improve the resolution!

The folks at Data Presentation Products have a nice video out showing how their EZ-GP product can speed up the export of Smartlist data to Excel.

I hope this trend of short video continues. I think it adds a nice compliment to static printed and web material. Check out EZ-GP, especially if you have large Smarlists that you need to export.

New Video On Smartlists Is Up

The latest Dynamic Sherpa video is available and it's all about Smartlists. Smartlists are a great Ad-Hoc reporting tool for Dynamics GP and yet, lots of users either aren't using it or barely using it. In this video we take 5 minutes to run down all the pieces of Smartlists, including some you may not have seen before.

It's lot to cram in and the video is closer to 6 minutes than to 5 but it's still under 6 minutes. The Smartlist video is available here.
